The 2026 World Press Freedom Index compares press freedom in 180 countries and territories, examining the political, legal, economic, sociocultural and safety conditions in which journalists work. The 2026 edition reports the lowest global average score in the Index’s 25-year history, with 52.2% of countries classified as “difficult” or “very serious.”

Freedom House – Freedom on the Net

An annual global research project by Freedom House assessing internet freedom and digital rights across countries. It examines barriers to access, online censorship and content restrictions, surveillance, privacy, freedom of expression, and the use of digital technologies for civic mobilisation. The 2025 edition covers 72 countries.
