“Hacker Attack” is an educational escape room in which students work together to identify the target of a planned online attack. Participants find and combine hidden information and solve puzzles related to fake news, hate speech, data protection and online behaviour. The activity is designed as a playful group experience that strengthens young people’s confidence and ability to act in digital environments.

Why it matters for ENACT-AI

The activity does not focus specifically on artificial intelligence, it develops core competencies that are highly relevant to AI literacy, including critical evaluation of information, recognition of manipulation and misinformation, awareness of privacy and data protection, and understanding how digital technologies can affect individuals and society. It can be adapted to include AI-generated misinformation, deepfakes, automated profiling and AI-supported hate speech.

Learning outcomes

Learners can critically evaluate online information, recognise characteristics of fake news and hate speech, understand basic data-protection risks, identify potential consequences of sharing information online, collaborate to solve digital challenges, and reflect on how to behave safely and responsibly in digital environments.

Suggested activity

Run the “Hacker Attack” escape-room scenario, then add an AI-focused debrief. Ask students how the investigation would change if the hacker used generative AI to create convincing fake images, voices or messages. In groups, learners identify which clues could be manipulated by AI, develop verification strategies, and create a short “Before you share” checklist for detecting AI-generated misinformation.
