AI 101 for Educators is a free, self-paced online professional-learning course from Code.org/ CodeAI designed to build foundational AI literacy among teachers and educators. The updated 2026 course consists of five modules of approximately one hour each, covering what AI is, how large language models work, practical uses of AI in teaching, AI literacy in the classroom, misinformation, bias, data privacy and responsible AI use.
Why it matters for ENACT-AI
The resource is directly relevant to ENACT-AI because it combines basic AI understanding with critical evaluation, responsible use and classroom implementation. Particularly relevant are the modules addressing how AI works, how to evaluate AI outputs, bias, misinformation, data privacy, academic integrity and human judgement.
Learning outcomes
Learners will be able to:
Explain basic AI concepts and understand how AI systems and large language models work.
Distinguish realistic capabilities of AI from common misconceptions and hype.
Use AI tools deliberately and critically in educational contexts.
Evaluate AI-generated outputs and identify potential bias or inaccuracies.
Understand risks related to misinformation and unreliable AI outputs.
Recognise data privacy and responsible-use considerations.
Apply AI literacy principles when designing classroom activities and assessments.
Reflect on when AI should or should not be trusted.
Develop strategies for introducing AI responsibly to students.
Suggested activity
After completing the module on responsible AI, ask educators to test an AI chatbot with several questions related to their subject area. They should compare the generated answers with reliable sources and identify inaccuracies, unsupported claims, bias or missing information. They can then discuss which verification strategies should be taught to students and create a short classroom activity focused on evaluating AI-generated content.
