How should AI be used in solving real-world problems.
Students investigate how AI is being used in real-world community contexts and consider its social impacts. They explore who may benefit from AI, who may be harmed, and how AI should be used to address real-world problems. Students use research and AI-supported analysis to develop a call to action proposing solutions to issues they identify.
Why it matters for ENACT-AI
The lesson directly develops AI literacy and critical thinking by asking learners to investigate real applications of AI, assess benefits and harms, consider different perspectives and propose responsible solutions. It also supports youth participation by giving young people a voice in identifying community challenges and advocating for change.
Learning outcomes
Learners can identify real-world applications of AI, investigate the social impacts of AI systems, identify groups that may benefit or be harmed, analyse different perspectives and potential consequences, use information from multiple sources to develop an informed position, and propose responsible actions or solutions related to AI use in society.
Suggested activity
Ask learners to choose an example of AI being used in their community, such as AI in education, healthcare, transport, retail, social media or public services. In groups, they research how the system works, who benefits, who might be negatively affected, and what risks or ethical concerns exist. They then create a short call to action proposing how the AI system could be improved or used more responsibly. Groups present their recommendations and discuss whether AI is the best solution to the problem.
