A lesson in which students explore the ethical tradeoffs of using AI in creative contexts.
Students explore ethical questions around using AI in creative work, including ownership, copyright, attribution, consent, compensation, transparency, and fairness. Through real-world examples, group discussions, and reflection activities, learners consider how AI can support or undermine human creators and develop their own principles for responsible AI use.
Why it matters for ENACT-AI
The lesson directly develops AI literacy and critical thinking by helping young people understand the social and ethical implications of AI-generated content, question ownership and authorship, recognise the importance of attribution and consent, and form informed opinions about responsible AI use.
Learning outcomes
Learners can evaluate the role of AI as a collaborator in creative work, identify ethical issues related to AI-generated content, explain concepts such as copyright, attribution, transparency and consent, consider different perspectives on ownership and compensation, and justify how AI should be used responsibly in creative contexts.
Suggested activity
Begin with a “Real and Fair or Misleading and Unfair?” warm-up using examples of AI-generated news, voice recordings and images. Introduce key concepts including ethics, copyright, attribution and transparency. Then organise learners in groups of 2–3 to rotate through “Ownership and AI” discussion stations focused on ownership, authorship, creativity, consent and compensation. Finish with an individual reflection and a Think-Write-Share discussion about which ethical values should guide the use of AI.
