★★★★Up to date

A youth-focused media literacy campaign designed to help young people distinguish reliable information from false or manipulated content. Why it matters for ENACT-AI

The campaign directly develops critical media literacy and the ability to identify and assess misinformation, manipulation, propaganda and fake news. These skills are highly transferable to AI-generated content, deepfakes and algorithmically amplified misinformation, although the original campaign predates the current generative-AI context.

Learning outcomes

Learners can identify different forms of misinformation and manipulation; recognise propaganda techniques; critically evaluate information sources; check whether information is credible; distinguish reliable information from false content; and become more conscious consumers and sharers of online information.

Suggested activity

“Spot the Manipulation” – Give participants 4–5 examples of online content: a genuine news item, misleading content, propaganda, fake news and an AI-generated/deepfake example. In groups, participants identify the source, evidence, emotional language, intended purpose and manipulation techniques. They then decide whether they would trust, verify or reject the content and explain their reasoning.
